Helge Neuffer

The gaunt man in the white shirt seems to become part of the film projection. It shows the bronze sculpture of an African. When the pale portrait of a man lying on the floor can be seen in the projected image, the gaunt man turns around and ponders his thoughts and feelings. Soon afterwards, he smiles. It is the same smile of his father, who died in 1973 and was filmed by me in 1971. His father seems to be looking at him. The smile dies; lights up once more. Helge Neuffer turns to him. The reference to Africa (Uganda) connects the three of us. I met Helge Neuffer again this summer for the first time in fifty years. (Friedl vom Gröller)
