Red Morning
Men waving during a functional test. A group of men can be seen standing in a row, performing simple hand movements: with their arms bent vertically in front of their torsos, the men move their hands sharply up and down from the wrist. One of them, with a grim expression on his face, bangs his clenched fist up and down in front of him. In some shots, the hands are clasped as if in prayer. The images are highly abstracted by the filming technique and bathed in a garish, bright red. The uncertainty already triggered by the inexplicable or unexplained nature of the first hand movement is further intensified by the aggressive style of the fist’s striking motion.
